Square footage matters, but it is not the only measurement. The number of bedrooms, bathrooms, staircases, finished basement rooms, and heavily used living areas can matter just as much. Bathrooms and kitchens generally take more detailed work than open, lightly furnished rooms.

A first cleaning often takes longer because the crew is removing built-up dust, soap residue, grease, pet hair, and grime—not simply maintaining already-clean surfaces. Be candid about the condition when requesting a quote. Photos or a brief walk-through help prevent misunderstandings.
3. One-time versus recurring service
Recurring cleaning is normally more efficient after the initial visit. Weekly service keeps buildup under control and typically requires less work per visit than biweekly or monthly service. A one-time deep clean, move-out clean, or pre-event cleaning usually has a broader scope.
4. The exact checklist
“House cleaning” can mean different things to different companies. Ask whether the quote includes baseboards, interior windows, ceiling fans, cabinet fronts, appliance exteriors, beds, and trash removal. Interior ovens, refrigerators, windows, and cabinets are often separate requests because of the extra time involved.
